Articulate People Take Words Seriously.

Not that those who fail to possess a proper grasp on grammar or spelling do not, but I do believe that those who respect and, in a sense, celebrate vocabulary pay more attention to things being said to them. Especially when the words are being expressed by someone they care about.

Maybe it's due to our natural tendency to gravitate toward other people who reflect certain aspects of ourselves, and share similar interests and passions. And maybe I'm too passionate about whiskey and food-talk, so when I cross paths with a man who can talk the talk, walk the walk AND knows how to hold it down in the kitchen, the wires in my brain get a little twisted up. And then, maybe, maybe I see more of myself in them than they deserve credit for.

With that said, I guess I can't take most people's words to heart. Perhaps the majority do not understand how powerful the spoken word can be, but articulate people do. Our words don't just flow freely from our lips without effort (ok, well sometimes they do #brushyourshoulderoff), we choose them wisely, deliberately; we mean what we are saying and we are aware that we are saying it.

So, audience, when you're speaking to someone who loves to litter their language with illustrative adjectives and multi-syllabic words because they aim to communicate effectively and eloquently, be sure to mind your tongue, we're absorbing and relishing in every word you say...

Because articulate people take words seriously.
