Articulate People Take Words Seriously.

Not that those who fail to possess a proper grasp on grammar or spelling do not, but I do believe that those who respect and, in a sense, celebrate vocabulary pay more attention to things being said to them. Especially when the words are being expressed by someone they care about.

Maybe it's due to our natural tendency to gravitate toward other people who reflect certain aspects of ourselves, and share similar interests and passions. And maybe I'm too passionate about whiskey and food-talk, so when I cross paths with a man who can talk the talk, walk the walk AND knows how to hold it down in the kitchen, the wires in my brain get a little twisted up. And then, maybe, maybe I see more of myself in them than they deserve credit for.

With that said, I guess I can't take most people's words to heart. Perhaps the majority do not understand how powerful the spoken word can be, but articulate people do. Our words don't just flow freely from our lips without effort (ok, well sometimes they do #brushyourshoulderoff), we choose them wisely, deliberately; we mean what we are saying and we are aware that we are saying it.

So, audience, when you're speaking to someone who loves to litter their language with illustrative adjectives and multi-syllabic words because they aim to communicate effectively and eloquently, be sure to mind your tongue, we're absorbing and relishing in every word you say...

Because articulate people take words seriously.

This Year, Last Year

I've been putting off this post all year. Ha!

Seriously though, around the time of the New Year a moment of reflection came upon me [this is not grammatically incorrect, as I did not take a moment to reflect upon the previous year, rather the moment sporatically came upon me].

At the end of 2012 I had interviewed for a position [which I was over-qualified for, however, I would advise you to leave out any sentiment regarding the Mayan calendar/pending apocalypse when interviewing for ANY job, even if you have made it to the third interviewer and they ask-again- "Where do you see yourself in 5 years?"] with a reputable, high-end, incredibly delicious specialty meats & game purveyor and was seeing a man who had potential to be something great; I had really felt that 2013 was going to be a good great year for me. That didn't happen. Nor did the job. And yet still I believed the best was yet to come.

I put a lot of faith into 2013. And then I just fucking sat there, waiting for it to lead me to my next step, the next big thing, all without making a single move.  Foolish.

New Year's Eve, 2013: I spent the night dancing like I wasn't going to have a job the next day. And I didn't. And you know what? It was glorious.

I started 2014 with the goal to create my own brand and my own success this year.  While I am scrapping pennies and concocting game plans, I have never felt more confident and more sure that this is what I need to do.  I welcome any failures, along with any success, because we all need to work our way through the weeds before we can flourish.

And so, at 7:50AM, 23 days after the start of 2014, I raise my half-empty mug of no longer-hot-enough coffee and salute the New Year! #LETSGO
